Had the movie introduced the elements you mentioned, I wonder if the popular audience would get much yield out of it. Towards the end of the movie, the audience may just want quick resolution. Also, perhaps they had the elements you mentioned, but the test audience didn't respond well to it. Good writing; it flows well.
